My New Embellished Shower Curtain

So, last year I painted the kids' bathroom red and was on the hunt for a new shower curtain.  I looked all over for one that was black and white ticking, but I couldn't find one.  I finally broke down and bought some black and cream ticking and made my own.  I had company coming and needed something quick, so I settled for the cream.  I liked it initially, but after a few months it just seemed so dark in there.  The cream really felt heavy and dark and dingy in such a small room.  The post about this curtain is here.  Here's the picture, but you can't tell much about it here.

Anyway, I've been searching for MONTHS to find a new one that I liked.  I love my red paint and wanted a curtain with a lot of color.  Something like...

that had both red and aqua, which is my favorite color combination as of late.  So, I found the above online and immediately headed to the brick and mortar store to see it in person.  But, once I got there I realized that the red in the curtain did not match the red paint.  UGH!  Back to square one.

So, I explained the situation to Hubby and with company coming next week, I decided that I just needed to give up my beloved red paint and repaint something else.  Hubby quickly explained that he was NOT going to have time to help me and talked me out of repainting, which frankly didn't take much because I HATE to paint.  So, the only other option was to make my own curtain again, but I couldn't find any fabric I liked again.  So, I decided to embellish a plain white curtain.  I bought my white shower curtain and I bought my supplies.

That gift bag sort of served as my inspiration.  I bought paint in the same red as my bathroom walls, aqua and an apple green.  I spray painted my collection of buttons and VERY randomly attached them to the plain white curtain.  I sewed the big ones and got lazy and hot glued the little ones.  I added ribbon and ric rac to the top.  Wanna see?

Wanna closer look?

I did also grab a few little buckets from Target's Dollar Spot and a few hand towels.

Wow, I need some artwork.  I'll work on that next week.  I think the kids will like the bright colors so much better than the black and cream.  So, what do you think?  Do I need more buttons?  Any suggestions?

Bathroom Update and a Ticking Shower Curtain

As you may now, I have become obsessed with red.  I have always wanted a red kitchen and I finally go that done.  Here it is right after we painted it.

My obsession with red continued on to the kids bathroom.  We recently painted it red too.  I'll have more pictures of the entire bathroom later, but today I wanted to show you my new shower curtain.

But, you need to check out the inspirations first.  Shauna over at Show and Tell has an amazing house.  I am obsessed with her laundry room and her bathroom!  When she posted a picture of her shower curtain.....it was love at first ruffled glance.  Check it out!

Isn't it amazing?  I love all the ruffles!!  So cute!!  You can find her post here

I love the ruffled shower curtain, however, I knew I didn't want white in my kids bathroom.  It's beautiful but my kids are dirty little creatures and I knew it would be GROSS in just a few days.  I searched and searched for fabric.  I looooove damask, but I use it a lot and thought maybe I needed to go a different direction.  I couldn't find anything that screamed "I'm the one!" and then I saw an old curtain I made for the kitchen a long time ago.  It was red ticking.  I love ticking stripes.  I think they are so homey and simple.  I looked everywhere for white and black ticking with no luck.  then one day at Hobby Lobby, I came across a cream and black ticking.  So, I bought 5 1/2 yards.  This is what I ended up with.

I ran out of fabric so right now I've only got three rows of ruffles.  This is them upclose.

I've got to get more fabric for more ruffles, but I was trying to get it done before my company came.  I'll add more ruffles eventually.

Hubby spray painted the curtain rod for me and I used curtain clips from Wal-Mart for hanging.  I think all together this cost about $32 because the fabric was 30% off.  YEA!  Not bad, of course, I do have more ruffles to add so it will end up being a little more.
