Getting To Know You Thursday.....Free Time!

So, school starts in eleven days.  While I am very excited about things getting back to "normal" around here, I have mixed feelings about my youngest starting school.  I'm excited because I love watching her grow up, but it breaks my heart that she's not gonna be home with me every day.  The thought of dropping her little sweet/sassy self off at that big ole school is just killing me!

Hope she doesn't try this pouty look on her teacher.

Another problem, what in the world am I gonna do all by myself all day?  It's gonna take some getting used to.  I will be working a few days a week, but that leaves several days a week all by my lonesome.

One thing I'm hoping to do with my alone time, is to get my house somewhat organized and cleaned up.  I'm no June Cleaver.  My house isn't spotless at all times (the people who know me in real life are cracking up right now).  Let's just be honest, shall we?  My house is a PIT right now.  It' AWFUL!  I have so much STUFF.  When you have six people living in 1500 square feet, organization is a must.  I didn't get that organization gene from my mom and the thought of organizing it all is a little overwhelming to me at times.  I'm an EXCELLENT procrastinator which makes the organization even more necessary.  I mean, why go through the mail EVERY day when you can do it once a week and let it pile up on the kitchen counter, right?  Okay, I gotta get a handle on that!  Once I get oganized, I need to clean.  So, I have a date with this guy:

I kind of have a thing for bald guys!

Speaking of dates with bald guys (or balding), I am extremely excited about sharing some of my "alone time" wih Hubby.  My Hubby has to work on the weekends at least twice a month, therefore, he sometimes has days off during the week.  We can get up and get the kids ready, drop them off at school and have date day.  We can go to lunch and hit the early movie or just hang out together all day.  Sounds FABULOUS!  We'll be able to have an entire conversation without stopping forty-seven times in the middle.  WOO HOO!  I can't wait!

I haven't had much time to work out lately either.  L has been out of summer school and I can't take him to the gym nursery so the only workout I've had was helping my BIL and SIL move the other night.  I've GOT to get back to the gym or I'm never gonna look like this:

Okay, I'll never look like Fergie unless there is plastic surgery involved, but you get what I am saying, right?

The other thing I need to do is work on the projects I've got planned around the house.  I've got to work on the redoing the girls' room.  I've had the fabric for the girls' bedskirts for a month and haven't sewn them up yet.  Gotta get on that!

So, what I wonder is, what do you do with your alone time?  Do you work and get projects done?  Do you hit the spa?  Do you stay at home and relax?  What do you do?

  1. It's good to see this Thursday theme started again. I've always liked it.

Alone time? I putz around and clean and work on a project. I'm so very, very much more productive when I don't have a daughter around to distract me into doing something with her. (Because I like to be distracted, of course...)

  2. Ugh, my oldest starts K this year!!! I'm dreading it. My youngest will also go to pre-school a couple afternoons, also dreading. I'm also excited for them both though and I am excited to have some me time. Get in shape and get the house in shape are on the top of my list too! I also want to be a better bargin shopper so I'm going to be working on those skills and get busy clearing clutter out, looking for items to sell/consign/giveaway.

  3. This will be my 3rd year being home since kids started school...and I'm getting bored. But I'm very hopeful that this will be my last year alone for quite awhile {wink}.
I love date days with hubby. We go to ihop or cracker barrel for breakfast and then we shop or just enjoy being alone. Sometimes we take walks at the park. I'm very ready for school to start!!!

  4. My alone time tends to be like your list...organizing and cleaning mostly. I've got one child back in school already (he started a new school last week) and my other child starts in a few weeks. My house is a pit right now too and I am anxious to get it under control again.
When they are both in school I am anxious to get back to my blog too. I just haven't spent any time with it this summer with the kids home. I kinda miss it :)
And my husband has his own business and sometimes can be pretty flexib;e with his schedule so we try to have some lunch dates occassionally too.
I remember thinking when both of my kids were finally in school that I'd never come up with stuff to do for all those hours. HA! It's funny how quickly the day goes by and suddenly they're home from school!
    Enjoy your free time :)

  5. Your free time starts when mine disappears!

When I have free time I enjoy reading blogs with coffee, working in the yard, grocery shopping during the day instead of Sunday night, working on projects, and in general, just getting things accomplished.

Do you have a new job?

  6. Hope you can get some of your goals accomplished this fall!

In my free time, I usually do a little of both. I try to do some cleaning and getting things organized and I watch tv or play on the internet. Kinda depends on my mood that day and how tired I am.

  7. The first year I had all three in school I ended up at Walmart nearly every day for the first two weeks. I can't remember why that happened, but it sucked!
The last year all three were in school, Craig had Friday afternoons off and we would go out to lunch. It was awesome; you're going to love it! Now that my oldest is homeschooling, I don't have totally alone time any more, but he's old enough to stay at home by himself, so I can shop by myself, which is so great.
I have trouble deciding what to do when I'm totally alone, because I don't want to waste it! But I do a little bit of all of it...projects, reading, cleaning, computer, etc.

  8. Oh my goodness you are too cute! First of all let me say I am far from June Cleaver myself and it is just so tiring to clean your heart out one day and it looks THE SAME it did before you cleaned it the day after. I saw an amazing quote the other day on Pinterest that said "Organized people are just too lazy to look for things!" haha..YEAH!
I only have one son right now but I will be so sad when he and any other kids we might have leave me, that has to be so hard. ANd I also need to be "up in the gym just workin on my fitness" and yea that isn't happening, but I did walk to Chic-Fil-A today. haha.
Glad to find your blog! New follower:)

  9. IF I get alone time..it's usually filled with cleaning or working on projects. Sometimes I use 'me' time to work-out. Lately, all my time has been spent looking for stuff that's still packed up :)

  10. I remember very well when my youngest started school. He went to preschool and then half-day kindergarten, but then he started "real" school RIGHT AT THE SAME TIME I TURNED 40. Yikes!

Actually, right at that time I directed a big conference here in Chapel Hill, so that kept me busy for a year. Then one thing led to another, and now I never even think of going to the spa or the gym during the day! Actually, if I were more organized, I might get to the gym sometimes, but I just can't seem to make it work. I'm amazed at how quickly the hours between 8 and 3 seem to fly by! (Of course, so do the years--this fall I'll have two in college and my baby in high school. It's been a long time since that day he went to school and I turned 40!)

  11. You have verbalized everything in my mind with this post. My youngest is starting school this year and I have mixed feelings feelings. It will be wonderful to have alone time in ten years. Thanks for visiting my blog. I love to cook so much that I can do three loads of dishes in a day and the kitchen is still a mess. :) Tien
