Getting To Know You Thursday....What TV Show Is Most Like Your Family?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  I love my TV.  My TV and I have been friends my whole life.  My earliest memory of watching TV was sitting on the couch with my mom in our little house.  I also have very vivid memories of watching Sesame Street in our upstairs apartment.  Oh, how I loved Bert and Ernie - Rubber Duckie, You're The One - I love that song.

When I got a little to old for Sesame Street, I remember watching a lot of Lone Ranger, Leave it To Beaver, The Patty Duke Show, The Cosby Show and much to my parent's dismay, Roseanne.  But what I really loved was Little House on the Prairie.  I am pretty sure I have seen every episode at least 20 times.  Laura was smart, full of mischief and she was a tomboy.   Charles and Caroline were wonderful parents.  They loved eachother and their children.  They were supportive and affectionate, but strict and always full of advice.  The family worked together and had fun together.  Pa could always be counted on to throw someone in the creek or to go fishing.  Ma was always cooking and taking care of the family, but was not afraid of hard work out in the fields either.  She gave of herself every single day.  There was an episode where Ma stayed up all night making the girls' new dresses as a surprise.  That episode reminds me of my mom staying up late sewing our Halloween costumes.  Both Ma and Pa worked very hard.  They went through many rough times, such as drought, hail storms that ruined their crops, and the death of a child, but they never lost their faith in God.  They never lost their faith in eachother.

Little House on the Prairie reminds me so much how I was raised.  I had amazing parents who taught us how God wanted us to live.  The not only taught us by telling us, but by example.  They taught us how to love eachother as a family and how to love other people.

As far as the family I am raising, I think it would be a mixture of Little House on the Prairie, with a little bit of The Cosby Show thrown in too.

My house is full of laughter, sarcasm, affection and lots of love.

  3. My side of the family seems a little like Reba and my husband's side is a mix of Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond :)
In our house..I'd like to think it's more like the Cosby Show - minus the great jobs & a few kids :)

  5. I loved Little House. I loved the books even more than the series, but I still loved it. I also LOVED The Waltons. In many ways, we were like them growing up. Not that we were as large or a mountain type family, but we were VERY multi generational.

We even used to do the "Good night John Boy" shout outs at night just to be funny.

Probably, we were most like the families in Leave it to Beaver or Father Knows Best.

My current family? Hmm... I guess maybe Growing Pains.

These are ALWAYS so fun. They get my mind thinking.

  6. EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND!!! I married Ray. My MIL isn't like Marie, but she can be high maintenance around the holidays.

  7. My family of origin? The Jerry Springer Show, just with fewer exposed body parts (I said fewer, not none!)

My family now? We are so 1950's- mom, dad, 2 kids in a house. Dad works, mom stays home, kids go to school. So maybe the Donna Reed show or Leave it to Beaver, but nobody here is that perfect! And I sure don't wear pearls and high heels every day (or ever!)

By the way, I LOVED Little House too! My dad used to let me stay up till 9 only on Mondays for Little House. It was my favorite!

  9. Loved Little House! In fact, if I ever got in trouble on a Monday my punishment was no Little House that night.
My family...I'm not sure. The Simpsons? Oh wait, that's my inlaws.
According to this quiz, we are the Barones, although I'm not sure I totally agree.

  11. Little House was my favorite show when I was a kid. I wish my real family was like that.

In real life, I'd probably be in one of the families on a soap opera...not one of the rich ones...the others...

  12. Oh wow - what a hard question! There are pieces of Parenthood that remind me of our family now.

I was a Little House fan, too. I even read most of the books!
