SPOKEO

We, as bloggers, all know how the internet can provide a way for us to meet and "keep up" with many wonderful people.  BUT, we also know the danger it can bring into the lives of people we love.  I know many of us try out best to keep our husbands and children, exact location, etc. all private.  We cover our house numbers when we do front porch makeovers.  We use code names for our children and husbands, etc.  We watch eachother's backs.  Today, I'm here to watch yours.

Do you know about Spokeo?  Spokeo is an online search engine designed to give out your personal information with just your name and your city and state.  You can search for a person's name and it shows you everyone with that name in the U.S.  You click on the state and it gives you everyone within that state with that name.  Then it will give you specific information on that person, including their address, age, names of family memebers, approximate yearly income, and sometimes even pictures.  I took the liberty of searching several friends and family to see if they were listed on Spokeo.  Most of the people I checked were listed, along with lots of personal info.

Sound dangersous and like nobody's business?  Want to remove your name from Spokeo?  Here's how:

1.  Go to Spokeo and search for your name.  Copy the url that show up for your profile.

2.  Go down to the bottom of the page and click the "privacy" button.

3.  Copy the url in the space provided.  Enter your other information (name and email) and hit "Remove   Listing".

Now you can feel at least a little more secure about your personal information.

Y'all have a great weekend!

  7. Hi there! :) I'm so glad you liked my pantry, I had a great time doing it! You know the best thing about it?...it's actually staying that way!! Yay!!! I agree with you, I LOVE that chalkboard vinyl!! It fun to make those little tags..I just adore things like that. Organization does something for my soul! lol
I'm glad you did this post on spokeo...what a terrible website! Just to let you know, it took me threatening them with legal action to get my name off their site, so you should go back and make sure you're not on there anymore. So sad.
    Have a great day!
    Missy :)

  9. Thank you! I followed your instructions, and my address wasn't in there, maybe because I'm unlisted. How scary, though. Any horrible psycho could get your information.

  10. I heard about this from another blogger last fall. At the time, I searched my name and found a lot of personal info, including a photo of our house. Pretty scary. I removed our listings immediately!

    Thanks for sharing this!
