Now, let's talk gowns. There were many beautiful gowns. Most of my favorites were brights, red and tangerine. My very favorite was the dress below on Anne Hathaway, who by the way, changed outfits eight times!!
Anne Hathaway in "archival" Valentino
Jennifer Hudson in Versace (show off that new body girl!)
Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang
I also love black and white. It's very classic.
Reese Witherspoon in Armani (Love her!)
Maria Menounos in Johanna Johnson
Nudes with sparkles and metallics seemed to be another big theme.
Halle Berry in Marchesa
Michelle Williams in Chanel
Bjork - YIKES!
The beautiful Cate Blanchett (love her) in Givenchy. I hate the structured shoulders. It reminds me of those big 80's shoulder pads and while the lavendar color looks pretty with her skin tone, but I hate the yellow and lavendar beading. ICK! But, her hair looks pretty.
This is Jennifer Redfern. She was nominated for her documentary called Sun Come Up. It is about a group of islands in the South Pacific where it's speculated that rising water will swallow the island within two years and the Cartaret Islanders will be displaced. She went to the island with her crew, including Cinematographer, Tim Metzger. They were there filming for several months where they fell in love. Isn't that sweet? Just thought I'd share that little tidbit of wonderfulness. While I'm happy about her little love story, I'm NOT crazy about her dress. It's kind of like she just wrapped silk sheets around her. It does nothing for her figure, but I'm sure she's a very nice lady.
Have I mentioned how much I love Hellen Mirren? I think it's because she reminds me of my mom.
Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood.
So, did you watch? Whose gown did you love?
I LOVED Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman. I also loved most of Anne's dresses, but she changed so many times I can't specifically remember a favorite! SO many pretty ones!
ReplyDeleteI watched about the first 30 mins. or so, then I got bored and flipped over to something else. I popped back a few times. I felt that there were a couple of times when Anne and James were trying to be funny, but it sort of fell flat. Of course, I can't imagine being under that kind of pressure! She did look gorgeous, though...as always.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch, but it's fun to see the recaps the next day. Don't you wonder what some women are thinking when they choose a dress? Or maybe it's chosen for them?
ReplyDeleteThis just occurred to me...maybe some of them chose really ugly on purpose because they know they'll get some exposure that way, whereas if they look good, but not exceptional, they'll most likely be passed over.
Jennifer Hudson was HOT! That was my absolute favorite! I loved Mila Kunis in lilac, but I kept thinking the lace on her chest was weird because she's fall out or something.
ReplyDeleteHalle Berry and Jennifer Hudson's Dresses were ah-maz-ing on them!!!
ReplyDeleteI did watch, and I thought the show was kind of a bomb. I felt like Anne and James were trying way too hard. Billy Crystal always does the shtick where he becomes an "extra" in the year's best films, and the only funny part for me was when Anne and James visited True Grit. The bear costume was funny.
ReplyDeleteI loved all of Anne's gowns except for the blue plasticky one. Natalie Portman looked fab except for the earrings, and I loved Reese Witherspoon's hair!!!
I'm glad you posted this because I missed the entire show. Of the dresses that you featured, I like Halle Berry's the best. I'm sure I'll see a lot more dresses this week on the news and in various magazines. I'll have to get in the longest line at Kroger this weekend so I'll have plenty of time to read about the best and worst dressed!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know if I can pick a favorite...there were so many beautiful ones! I agree about Cate though...bless her heart...I was watching her present and just wondering what she was thinking!:)
ReplyDeleteWe're not a big Oscar family here. We usually flip in here and there. I also look at the fashions online the day after:-) Great picks!
