My Garage Sale Find - WOO HOO!

So, I was on my way to take "L" to school Friday and noticed my neighbors were having a garage sale.  "Oh, poor Penny.  I loathe doing garage sales.  I hope she has better luck than I do", I thought to myself.  "Hey!"  I mouthed and waved as I avoided the cars lining both sides of the street.  Then I spotted it.  I SLAMMED on my brakes, screeching tires and sippy cups flying to the dash.  I quickly pulled over, jumped out of the van and ran up to my find.  I have been searching for that certain something for the living room and I just couldn't find it (Hubby and I disagreed on what, if anything should go there.  You can read all about it here) until now!  There it was.  My little treasure.  The perfect little something.  Wanna see?

Isn't it cute?  I'm not sure whether to repaint it or not?  I want it black anyway and I kind of like the beat up look.  Maybe I'll just sand it a little more?  I'm still trying to decide.  I think the knobs are a little too contemporary so I'll probably end up changing them, even though Hubby likes them.  Sorry Hubby!  Apparently there used to be a mirror, so it must've been a dressing table.  I need to decorate it but it's gotta wait until I decide for sure about the paint.  Hmmm.  Decisions!  Decisions!

I know you're wondering how much I paid, right?  You ready for this?  $20.  Sorry to disappoint all you good hagglers out there, but it was my neighbor.  I just couldn't haggle.  I'm not good at it.  I'm, in fact, really bad at it.  Just ask my Hubby!  He'll tell you the story of our honeymoon in Mexico when he haggled down the sterling silver ring I wanted and I kept saying, "That's not enough!  Give him some more money!"  He vowed to never take me shopping in Mexico again!  Anyway, obviously I need some haggler training!  Oh well!  At least I got my treasure.

  1. I can't haggle, either. I figure you couldn't buy it for $20 anywhere else, so it's still a good deal! I like it!

  2. Nice find!! What about crystal knobs? That would like against the black. I bet Hobby Lobby has them. :)

  5. I'm a horrible haggler too--and if it was someone I know--FORGET it!!! :0)
But $20 isn't bad at ALL for a table anyway--great find! I think you're right, a little more sanding...might make it look "distressed" rather than "beat up" hehe

  7. I love it the way it is, can't wait to see the new knobs!

I'm good on something to haggle but all depends. I couldn't haggle a neighbor, well if it was one I like :)

  8. You got a great deal! I wouldn't have haggled either. I think you can use it just like it is. New knobs would certainly be the easiest upgrade if you want to try them.

  10. 20 bucks? that is too funny. i did the same thing this weekend-slam on my brakes and quickly pull in-for a little metal plant stand/table. it was 6:30, and i thought they would go lower on the price since they were putting things away. they didn't. when i drove back home, at 8:30 at night, they were still out there! who is going yard sale shopping at 8:30?!?!

  11. beautiful table.
HA HA! on the story , i was told when we car shopped NOT TO SAY A WORD;)
I'm good at haggling someone I don't know, but if it was a neighbor, I'd probably do the same thing;)

  12. You are so funny! My rule of thumb is to never haggle with a neighbor, especially if the price is still somewhat decent. Better to pay and walk off happy for both parties involved, right? The table is darling...I would've sent sippy cups flying over that too! BTW, I am now a follower!

  13. I think it was a good price for that table so you didn't need to haggle. I don't do that either. If I like the price I'll get it and if it's too much I don't. I guess I'm too much of a people pleaser to haggle.
