10 Years and I Remember it Like it Was Yesterday

The day started early, as it always did with my daughter.  She entertained herself watching TV for a little while.  Eventually, everyone got up, got ready and went to the motel restaurant to have breakfast.  I didn't.  I waited.  It seemed like forever before I heard a knock at the door.  Finally!  I opened the door and found my best friend, who looked terrified.  "Oh my Gosh!  He's totally walking.  He's freaking out."  But after we hugged, he was fine.  He smiled again and we went to breakfast, more like brunch actually.  Pancakes, my favorite.

After breakfast, I gathered with the girls in our motel room.  I actually have ZERO idea where the men where at this point.  We hung out, took showers, watched TV and did our makeup.  We ordered lunch, but I didn't eat.  C was getting restless.  She was just three, after all.  My mom's friend, Judy, worked on C's hair, while LeeAnn stuck french fries up her nose and pretended to be a walrus, all in an attempt to entertain an antsy three year old.  It worked.

As the rest of us finished getting ready, C played in the floor with her new silver tea set, a gift from her soon to be aunt.

We all managed to get ready in that small motel room.  I was excited, but worried about my best friend.  He had gone to Wal-Mart in a neighboring town with his cousin Scott and hadn't made it back yet.  It was getting really late by now.  Then I got a call from him.  He was back and in his hotel room getting ready.

I carefully put on my dress, so I wouldn't mess up my hair or smudge my makeup on my dress.  I wore my mom's coat on top of my dress, partly because it was cold and partly to hide my dress.  We walked to the car and I climbed in, nearly shutting my dress in the door in the process.  The parking lot was directly across from his room.  Somehow we managed to get out of the parking lot without being seen.  We took the winding, hilly road to the chapel.  I was a bundle of nerves, not to mention slightly sick from the curvy road.  He drove up just as I was getting out of mom's jeep.  I was standing behind the Jeep door taking off mom's coat.  He walked toward me and my nerves melted away as he hugged me.

We met the photographer and took some pictures before the sun went down.  We entered the chapel just before sunset.  C was to walk me down the aisle, but she was refusing.  Finally, after much convincing, she agreed to walk with me.  The music played.  My sister walked down the aisle followed by my soon to be niece and C and I followed.  We said our vows.  We exchanged rings, including C.  My new BIL sang and we heard a taped version of my new husband singing.  He said he knew he couldn't get through it live.  I cried and he wiped my tears, just like he still does, ten years later.

I wouldn't change a thing about my wedding day.  My Hubby was my dream come true then, and still is today. Time passes so quickly, but I am so very thankful for the ten years we have spent together. He is now and will always be my best friend.

Happy 10th Anniversary to my Sweet Love!  I look forward to many, many more anniversaries with you.
