Welcome to My Mid-Life Crisis

So, you know that dream where you are walking around half naked?  And you look good?  Please tell me I'm not the only one that has that dream!  Anyway, the other night I dreamed Hubby and I were in high school and dating and I was so excited about wearing my new denim mini to school the next day.  It looked something like this:

It was short, simple, cute and effortless.  I was rockin' that skirt with just a simple tee and flip flops.  Naked?  No, but close enough.  Funny how young people can look so cute in just simple stuff.

This dream got me thinking about my love of clothing.  I love cute, effortless clothes.  I've recently been drawn to stuff like this:

and this

All cute stuff, right?  See how cute and simple these designs are?  One of my big things about losing weight is that I'm dying to buy some cute clothes.  What I'm realizing is, that even if I lose enough weight to fit into these clothes, I am probably to old to be wearing them.  I fear I'd look like that "older lady" we would see when we went clubbing in college.  You know the type - she obviously tans WAAAAY too much, she's wears way too much makeup, wears tight tops and mini skirts and high heels and you are left wondering if she owns a mirror.  You look at her and are just embarassed for her.  I don't want to be that lady.  I don't want my daughter to get teased at school because her mom is trying to look like a teenager.  UGH!

So, I am left trying to find my place in the fashion world - somewhere between this:

and this:

So, do you think I could pull off black leather pants?  Just kidding!

  3. Ohh, you must be living in my head. At 52, there is nothing to choose from. It's either too young or too old. And the weight thing....oh please. I just went to the doctor this morning to get help losing some. The nurse practitioner is older than me, but looked adorable in a long knit dress with leggings and boots. I don't think I could pull that off, but I'd sure like to try!
Mom jeans...oh please....I should be lucky enough to find a pair that actually fit.

  4. haha! You're funny : ) I think there IS a way to dress your age and still dress cute and sexy. It's hard to figure it out because in your heart, you still feel young!

  7. I have a theory that no-one ever gets to enjoy the age that they are at the moment. You always feel like you're too young (to do this or that), and then one morning you wake up and realize you're too old (to do this/wear that). Sucks.

  8. I guess we had our turn when ANYTHING looked good and it has passed. We still look good though! We just have to work at it a little harder. I think the clothes at CABI which I can not afford (thank you recession) but LOVE!!!! are perfect! I am just going to create a look book from those and see what I can come up with. No one says we have to give up our style because we age! ;)

  9. You can rock those leather pants, girl! ;) LOVE that mom jeans clip...they did such a great job with the butt shots. Reminds me of my mom in the 80s and 90s!!!!

  10. If you want to see ladies not dressing appropriately for their age, show up for back to school night at your local middle school. It is unreal what some people think is age appropriate!

I am sure that you always look cute!

  11. Do they make black leather mom jeans? There's a thought!

I loved that VS dress. Looks like something that my older daughter would wear. She loves ruffly things around the neck.

I know what you mean, too, about trying to have a good style yet not too young and not too old. My sister does a great job of the mixture. Me? Not so much.

  12. Bahaha! I love the mom jeans commercial!

And I completely feel ya on the fashion! I think so many things are sooo cute, and then I wonder if I'm too old to pull it off!
