Getting To Know You Thursday....Halloween

Well, it's that time again folks.  Halloween is upon us.  I've always had mixed feelings about Halloween.  I love the fun costumes and the candy and parties, but as I've said before, I am a chicken butt.  Scary stuff is not my thing.  I used to go to bed on Halloween night and count down to midnight.  I couldn't fall asleep until after midnight, when it wasn't technically Halloween anymore.  I thought if anything scary was going to happen, it would happen before the official ending of Halloween at midnight.  I know, I'm a dork.

I HATE scary movies, but I love suspenseful/thriller type movies.  I tried to watch Halloween once and I nearly hyperventilated in the first five minutes, so I turned it off.  Even the music is too scary for me.  Nope, scary is definitely not my thing.

What do I looove about Halloween?  Well, the chocolate of course, but also, the dressing in fun costumes.  I don't do scary costumes.  The closest we've gotten to scary costumes is the year C was Morticia Adams.  We've done angels, hobos, football players, etc.  I think my favorite costume would be the cat costume my mom made me.  I've talked about it several times on this blog.  Here's the picture:

That's my brother as a clown, and my sister and I as cats.

My favorite costume of E's is from last year:

She was Fancy Nancy.  If you don't have  a little girl, you may not know who Fancy Nancy is, but she's a little girl who loves all things fancy and piles on the patterns and accessories.  E love her Fancy Nancy books.   My other favorite:

E as Shirley Temple

I wish I could find the picture of C dressed up like Raggedy Ann.  I need to get my photos more organized one of these days.  My boys are boring:  Thomas the Train, Lightning McQueen or Mario EVERY YEAR!

I don't have a favorite memory from Halloween to share.  My favorite thing now is taking my little ones trick-or-treating.  They get so excited about it.  Then we all get to come home and pass out candy.  They love answering the door and putting the candy in the kids bags.

Do you have a favorite costume?  Do you have a favorite Halloween memory to share?  I'd love to hear it!

  2. Ohh, Shirley is precious!! No fun Halloween story. I've never been very fond of it, and agree with you whole heartedly on the scary stuff. I do like that it means fall is here, and autums decorations are appropriate! And it means that very soon, the weather will get crisp and cool. Gotta love that!

  3. I agree about the scary stuff...not a fan. I just love all your pictures. I don't remember any of my own as a child but my personal favorites of my daughters would be Minnie Mouse and Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie). Loved the dress up part.

My dad was a HUGE Halloween fan. He always decorated our house with coffins and monsters and scary music playing and such. One year he even had people in the trees and on the roof dressed up to scare people. (That of course would be after I was married and before the grandchildren). He had so much fun!

  5. Great post!! I love Halloween, and I always did! My favorite costume was all of them! When I was 9, I made a hawaiian girl costume with some leftover fabric and a big tissue paper flower, and I won 4th place in the costume contest. I was so happy! Of course, I did a Little House costume more than once or twice...

I am a big chicken too, so I don't like the scary stuff. I just can't do it. I do love everything else though! The decorations and the fun and the pumpkin patch and the trick or treating. All of it! Mr. Sahm and I love to have traditions for everything, and we do for Halloween too. We have a party for the kids, we have a themed dinner on Halloween night (this year it's jack o lantern cheeseburgers), and we go trick or treating in our neighborhood. October is just a great month!

  6. Oh my goodness, Shirley Temple is adorable!
I don't have any particularly wonderful Halloween memories. I always had fun, but it was always a homemade costume...nothing wrong with that, but it was never anything cute. Witch, old lady, hobo--basically anything that could be made from old clothes and a little face makeup.
