It's 9:00 a.m. and the house is quiet, except for E singing along with Pinky Dinky Doo. I am just putting the finishing touches on my makeup and hair and pulling on my size 8 jeans (yes, that's part of the dream), when the doorbell rings. I peek out the window, as I always do before I unlock the door. Low and behold, it's Publisher's Clearinghouse at my door with a big ole check made out to me. I open the door and find out the check is for $1,000, but there are stipulations. First of all, I am not allowed to pay bills with this money. I am not allowed to spend the money on the kids. I am to spend this money only on myself. Wow, this is a dilemma. I NEVER spend money on myself, or at least not often. Let me give you an example of what I mean. My kids always need new clothes because they outgrow them so quickly. Wanna know what I bought myself this summer? Two tank tops from Old Navy, and two $9.99 shirts from New York & Company, and two summer dresses with a grand total of about $65 for all of it and that's more than I ususally buy.
So, how would I spend my $1,000? Let's see......
So, this Cricut Expression and a few extras would be roughly $300.
Next I would go to a salon and get my hair colored and cut.
Love Ashlee Simpson's color.
and Emma Stone's color. Cut and color would be around $125.
Now, I desperately need some cute clothes. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. I love flannel and jeans and boots. I have a bit of a boot obsession. I love all of this:
Love this shirt for $33 from Maurice's.
CUTE! $75 from J.C.Penney's
$55 also from J.C. Penney's
Sad that I don't have a denim jacket, isn't it? Gap $35
Cute VS jammies for $49.50.
That is a grand total of $672.50 plus tax leaves about $260.00, just enough for a night out with the Hubby and a little bit to save for when I need a few things for summer.
So, what would you buy with your $1000?? Remember, you're not allowed to pay bills or spend it on anybody but yourself!!
You picked out some great stuff! Let's see, with a grand in hand, I would likely... gee, gotta think about this one! :)

I would probably get the cute shirt and boots you picked!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe stock up on some long sleeve tees from Target (like I did last year) :)
I have no idea how I would spend that much just on me!! How sad is that?!?
No matter how hard I try, I could never pay full price for anything even if it's with my imaginary $1000 prize. I'm not sure how much new diamond earrings would cost, but I'd love a sparkly pair. A new Coach bag (from the outlet) would also be great. I'd probably go to thrift stores and buy tons of new shirts too.
ReplyDeleteOooh, that would take some decidin', but I know part of that would be to buy something for baby Catherine!!! :D

Oh my goodness...I'm not sure I'm familiar with the concept of spending all the money on myself. ;) I'd buy a Silhouette machine, some new clothes, some cute shoes, and a trip to NYC! ;)
ReplyDeleteDoes an IKEA sectional count as just for me? We'd all sit on it, but I'm the only one who cares what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty sad that I'm thinking $1000 isn't enough for the things I want, isn't it?
I do need some new boots, though.
Anytime I've ever had money to spend on myself, I can never really decide what to buy. I want to get soooo much for my money, that I wind up getting all kinds of cheap things, and am not happy in the end. For my last birthday, the hubs gave me some money to spend only on myself. I agonized over new clothes...finally bit the bullet and bought two (yes only two) tops at a store I'd never shopped before. It's a bit pricier than I am comfortable with, but I forced myself. And I don't regret the purchases I made as I sit here now thinking about it. You get what you pay for....
ReplyDeleteI would get in my car, head to Greenfront in Farmville, VA and I'd pick out an oriental rug for my dining room. $1,000 might not be quite enough to purchase it, but it would pay for most of it. If I didn't do that, I'd buy a few new tennis outfits and some cute winter clothes for school.
ReplyDeleteI love both of those boot selections, but I don't know how to wear boots. Seriously, I'm fashion impaired! I completely relate to the lack of "selfish" spending. I never buy myself things! To ponder what I'd spend $1000 on is almost too hard to fathom! So lame, but I'd probably end up with a new clothes dryer. It really would be a treat for me after dealing with our crummy one for a couple of years now! ;) Fun to think about!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be fun to have $1000 to blow? I could SO do some damage! I so want to get a new pair of boots too. Hopefully they'll go on sale before next April! :)

ReplyDeleteit sounds like you would certainly have a good time with the money! something always seems to come up....sigh
Ooooh! I'm so glad that I found THIS one before it fell off the front page. I was busy with daughters for the past few days.
ReplyDeleteHmm... I'm terrible at spending money on myself. BUT, I really want one of those cricuts too. If I can be a size 8 in the dream, I'll buy some clothes, too.
And a great purse. It wouldn't be Coach or anything like that. I just have too much cheapness in me to enjoy it, but I do like a nice purse.
Actually, I once won a thousand dollars to spend in the boutiques and stores in our downtown area. They were the type of stores where it would have been THAT type of spending.
Guess what? I never spent it all. I couldn't decide and then felt dumb when a lot of time had passed. Sad... really sad.
I have to agree with Debbie... If we're dreaming and we can dream we're a size 8, then, girl, I need me some cute new clothes! Ann Taylor Loft, here I come!!! (outlet of course...) Oh, but would $1000 be enough to pay someone to paint my kitchen cabinets??
